Forsyth Barr House

35 The Octagon, Dunedin

In 2018, ADL Properties entered a partnership to manage the fit-out and rebuild of Forsyth Barr House. The ambitious project aimed to revamp the building from the inside out, with a focus on creating a modern and functional space for the tenants. We added a new floor complete with meeting rooms and outdoor balconies on either side. Our team also organised for the lift shaft to be extended and created a hidden area for the air conditioning units and building services. For the exterior and interior redesign we collaborated with McAuliffe Stevens Registered Architects.

History

Forsyth Barr House is proudly the newest addition to our portfolio. Originally built in 1973 by the Methodist Church, this iconic building is located in the heart of The Octagon. To preserve Dunedin’s building style, plans for renovation work considered the surrounding heritage buildings, and reflected them. One of the features of Forsyth Barr House is the brick pattern on the exterior of the building. This pattern is a mimic of St. Paul’s Cathedral and its aged, contrasting elements.
